This weekend, three PPA Premier Soccer Teams will compete for the Maryland State Cup Finals. The Maryland State Cup is one of many prestigious and competitive tournaments where PPA's Premier Soccer teams compete and an opportunity to play against the top USYS clubs in the state. Winners of this tournament have the opportunity to compete in Regionals with a chance to qualify for USYS Nationals in July.
Both 2010 Green Boys and 2010 Green Girls teams, along with the 2009 Green Girls, have qualified for the Maryland State Cup final. These teams have shown tremendous skill and determination in their matches leading up to this point.

The 2010 Green Boys team secured a 2-1 victory against the defending champions, Laurel Lions in the 14U matchup. Their resilience and teamwork were on full display. Marcus Halley and Oliver Kalm scored two big goals to take the team to the final. The 2010 Green Boys also competed in the US Youth Soccer National League Conference Playoffs in Florida in December and went on to compete in California for the national playoffs earlier this month.

The 2010 Green Girls (14U) overcame FC Frederick 1-0 in the semi-finals to reach the Maryland State Cup finals for the second year in a row. They face Baltimore Union Soccer Club in a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s finals on Sunday, June 2.
So far this year the 2010 Green Girls have placed second in the South Atlantic EDP Conference (Fall season), won the Southampton Cup, attended the US Youth Soccer National League Conference Playoffs, and won Jefferson Cup.

The 2009 Green Girls advanced to the Maryland State Cup finals for the fourth consecutive year. The team defeated Coppermine 2-1 in their semi-final match. The team is set to face a tough Maryland Rush team who they lost to in last year’s final. The girls are eager to reclaim their title.

The Presidents Cup is also a USYS tournament and offers similar high-level competition for its participants. The 2012 Green Boys earned their spot in the U12 finals with a victory over Takoma Friends United. The 2012 Green Boys will face DC Soccer Club Blue Metro in the finals on Saturday, June 1.
